Body check (mfg)
8 days,127.5 miles, walking an average of 15.9 miles/day while wearing a 12 pound backpack
How are we doing about 1/3 of the way in? Not bad at all. In fact, pretty good.
Spoiler: TMI about me. No idea if Bill will care to share how he’s feeling.
After the first day, I developed a blister on my big left toe, the beginning of one on my big right toe, and the possibility of one on my left thumb from the hiking poles. Drained, Neosporin’d, and wrapped the left toe, decided to just watch the other two irritated areas. Woke up the next day and everything was fine. No problems since.
Just a few days ago, I started getting a sore neck, probably from looking down too much. It becomes quite irritating at the 14 mile mark. Read up on stretches to reverse the knots that develop and fingers crossed, that’ll fix the issue.
Yesterday, I took a mild tumble, with no consequence except embarrassment, a tiny bit of blood, and a not-impressive bruise.
The second we’re done for the day, after 6-7 hours, I get chilled for about 15 minutes. We immediately lie on our bed with our feet up agains the wall and just hold that position for 10-15 minutes. It’s heaven.
Bodies are simply amazing - truly rising to the challenges. I am beyond grateful that my biggest complaint is tired feet at the end of the day.
And my solution for all of the above?
Rest, then just keep walking!
Here’s to Santiago on the 24th.
